Rally Reader Education Fund:  Free Literacy Support for Canadian Classrooms

We are proud to introduce the Rally Reader Education Fund, a new initiative designed to support Canadian classrooms with free access to Rally Reader and its full suite of literacy tools. The fund is held in trust by The Veritas Foundation and supported by civic-minded Canadian companies who believe, as we do, that literacy is a human right.

The need has never been more urgent. Since 2020, literacy rates in Canada have been declining, and nearly half of Canadian adults report literacy skills below a high school level. These statistics remind us that reading is the foundation for learning, confidence, and opportunity. At Rally Reader, we believe that when children are given consistent access to books and supportive tools, they become stronger, more independent readers. And because today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders, we see this work as an investment in the future.

Rally is already making a difference in classrooms across North America. In partnership with Apple Education, students have logged more than 2.2 million minutes of reading, and teachers are noticing meaningful changes in fluency, engagement, and confidence. For Eli, a Grade 6 teacher, Rally’s tools have opened up new ways to support her students:

“One of Rally Reader’s most powerful impacts is having them practice their reading fluency. The dashboard is helpful for me to track whether students are actively participating in their reading exercises and what words they struggle with. It’s also helpful to know what kinds of books students are drawn to.”

That combination of practice, progress tracking, and choice is central to Rally. Students tell us that having access to our large digital library feels empowering, especially when the features make reading feel approachable and fun. As one Grade 3 student shared:

“I think it’s a great app because you get to read a lot more chapter books. I never used to like chapter books, but Rally helps me like them and read more of them.”

To make sure every student has this kind of opportunity, the Rally Reader Education Fund provides classrooms across Canada with access to over 50,000 books from top publishers, a built-in reading coach, and dashboards that track each word read. Funding is available to qualifying schools on a first-come, first-served basis, with up to three years of support for schools in metro areas depending on student reading activity.

Our ask is simple: just 15 minutes of reading a day. For classrooms that meet (or exceed!) that goal, Rally can provide full coverage for up to three years.

We have funders ready to support Canadian schools, and we invite committed educators eager to bring this opportunity to their students to apply. Together, we can create a culture of daily reading, open doors to thousands of books, and make measurable progress in reading success.
